The Presentation School of Reus: A Day to Rediscover the Charism

Reus (Spain), 10/22/2025, Sr. Conchi García.- On October 18, the Presentation School of Reus (Spain) experienced a very special day led by Sister Gemma Morató Sendra, dedicated to deepening the charism of Marie Poussepin and the spirituality of Saint Dominic de Guzmán — roots that continue to give meaning to the educational and pastoral mission we share as a community.

It was a bright, fraternal, and lively day, where teachers and sisters were able to pause, reflect, and savor the joy of belonging to a great family seeking to live truth, balance, and humility in the spirit of our founders — just as the title of the conference suggested: “Truth, Humility, and Balance: Today’s Challenges in the Style of Marie Poussepin.”

With her characteristic spontaneity and depth, Sister Gemma offered a talk that helped rediscover the relevance of the Dominican message. Through her words, she invited us to see Saint Dominic as a man of peace who understood that the world is not transformed through violence or weapons, but through the Word of God, the power of shared truth, and a simple, coherent life.

She also recalled the figure of Marie Poussepin, a courageous woman ahead of her time, who knew how to unite faith and action, prayer and service, firmness and tenderness. Her life was an example of balance and humility — virtues that remain both a challenge and a call today for those of us who educate and accompany others. “Humility,” she reminded us, “is not putting oneself at the center, but letting Christ take that place.”

Sister Gemma’s presentation was enriched with moments of dialogue, participative dynamics, and gestures that encouraged encounter and personal reflection. Among them, the paper boat activity stood out as a simple yet powerful symbol inviting everyone to sail together, trusting in the strength of the group and the guidance of God.

Halfway through the morning, everyone shared a fraternal breakfast — a simple and joyful moment that allowed continued conversation and strengthened bonds in an atmosphere of closeness and community.

One of the most touching moments of the day was the presentation of a song written by Sister Gemma, performed by Sister Conchi, with the help of AI for the musical arrangements. It moved everyone present. The lyrics, inspired by the charism of Marie Poussepin and the conference we had just heard, became a song of hope and commitment, reminding us that the mission is built through love, service, and shared joy.

The day concluded with the celebration of the Eucharist, a profound moment of thanksgiving for all that had been lived. It was a fitting way to close a day marked by communion, where prayer, song, and fraternity came together to renew the desire to live and transmit the charism with authenticity and simplicity.

In the words of one participant, “It was a day to recharge the heart and return to what really matters: to Jesus, to service, to the truth that sets us free.”

The spirit of Marie Poussepin and the light of Saint Dominic continue today to inspire our educational communities to look at reality with open eyes, compassionate hearts, and willing hands — building together a world that is more human, just, and full of hope.

Before the vastness of life,
like a paper boat,
we sail with humble hearts,
trusting the wind of faith.
Marie Poussepin guides us,
with gentle light and calm,
showing that strength is clear
when born from a heart of love.

Paper boat, keep on sailing,
carry hope, shining love.
Between prayer and action you’ll find
the balance the world longs to sing.

It is not the greatness of the world
that brings us truth,
but the love that becomes a gesture,
open hands in freedom.

She teaches us to serve,
to look with sisterhood,
and in every wave to feel
the presence of her goodness.

Paper boat, keep on sailing,
carry hope, shining love.
With humility, faithful to the path,
even the frailest can be divine.

When the sea turns grey,
and the wind makes you fall,
remember the light that made you dream.
Make your heart a living prayer,
and your service a sign of peace.

Paper boat, keep on sailing,
to the shore of eternity.
With faith and love, your journey will be
a mirror of heaven upon the sea.
