Bogotá: Launch of the Process for Reviewing the Missionary Presence

Bogota (Colombia), 07/15/205, Sr. Adriana Marcela Rojas.- On July 15, 2025, the Province of Bogotá convened all its communities for a virtual meeting to present the proposed project for reviewing the missionary presence. The gathering brought together sisters from the general government, provincial sisters, and lay collaborators from the different missionary presences. The process centers on spiritual transformation and returning to Jesus, actively promoting the participation of both sisters and laity in discernment and decision-making processes. This initiative seeks to generate new vitality and viability in the life and mission of the Province, responding to current challenges and envisioning its future.

During the meeting, Sr. Mariamma Paul, Prioress General, offered a greeting and invited reflection on the importance of missionary review in the current context of the Church and the Congregation. She highlighted the need for transformation and adaptation to new realities, following the call of the 56th General Chapter and aiming for a renewed missionary outreach. Sr. Mariamma emphasized that this process is ongoing and seeks to discern how to respond appropriately to today’s needs, while the Province of Bogotá approaches it with a spirit of discernment, synodality, and hope.

The project’s charismatic foundations include, among others:

  • A logo: the loom, evoking the story of Marie Poussepin, her initiative to take the lead and open new paths… from the handloom to the industrial loom, from silk to wool; events that, at the time, represented a remarkable transformation and made a difference in 17th-century France.
  • A motto: “Together we weave the future of the charism”, a strong call to live synodality in order to achieve true transformation. The proposed plan will be developed in three phases: awareness, discernment, and decision-making, with the aim of responding to current challenges and projecting the Province’s future.

The meeting included interventions from lay collaborators, who expressed their interest in spirituality, transformation, and their inclusion in the evangelizing mission. The process represents a significant step toward revitalizing the missionary presence in the Province, with an inclusive approach oriented toward the specific needs of the realities where the Province is present.
