Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), 02/23/2025, Sr. Nicole KABORE.- They were many, and like us, they elegantly wore the color of the Order on this day, February 22, 2025. These men and women, having discovered and been deeply touched by the beauty of the Charism, decided to follow in the footsteps of the humble and devout Servant of Sainville. It is God who calls, and it is He who has led them to our spirituality—we walk together in the search for holiness. Through their commitment, they carry on the work begun by the Blessed One from the very first moments of her religious family’s foundation. In fact, as history tells us, Marie Poussepin once sent a laywoman along with a Sister to the mission in Janville. What boldness, what trust!
The commitment of lay people to the Charism today on African soil once again confirms the irrevocability of Mother Poussepin’s intuition and its universality, which transcends spatial boundaries. The celebration was presided over by Father Jonas (Redemptorist) and took place in our chapel in Dassasgho. In the presence of Sr. Evelyne OUEDRAOGO, Viceprovincial Prioress, her council, and several Sisters, those who had made their commitments two years ago renewed them with pride and devotion, while five new members made their first promises, all expressing their desire to continue walking alongside the Sisters. In total, twenty-three people renewed their commitments. This ceremony was preceded by both remote and immediate preparation, which included formation in spirituality and charism, as well as reflections on the theme of vulnerability as it applies to their lives. Weekly Bible readings, meditations on the Holy Rosary (rotated by mystery each week), and retreats gave them moments of intimacy with the Lord through Eucharistic adoration. The liturgical animation and material organization contributed to a beautiful and prayerful Eucharistic celebration, followed by fraternal sharing. A joyful procession with rhythmic steps, carefully choreographed with offerings of fruits, flowers, and gifts accompanied by dance, expressed the joy of committing themselves as bearers of spirituality.
During the celebration, each person who renewed their promises received a rosary from the Prioress. Each of the new members received a copy of their Rule of Life, a medal of Marie Poussepin, and a rosary. Let us give thanks to God, who watches over the work of His Servant. Let us pray for our lay associates and accompany them so that, as witnesses and carriers of the charism, they may live out Dominican charity wherever they are. May they, too, bring the knowledge of Jesus Christ and His mysteries into their environments and workplaces.
