Koudougou (Burkina Faso), Sr. Viviane Compaore, 10/25/2025.- In order to continue its missionary impulse in the world, and especially within the framework of the Episcopal Conference of Burkina-Niger, the Vice-Province of Africa has lived an important stage in its missionary journey with the foundation of a new community in the Diocese of Koudougou. This community, placed under the protection of Saint Thomas Aquinas, is composed mainly of sisters who are students.
Two significant moments marked this establishment in the land of Koudougou: the official inauguration on October 14 and the installation of the community on October 25 of the same month.
Indeed, the official inauguration took place on October 14, the feast of Blessed Marie Poussepin, following a novena in honor of our Foundress. During those nine days, the sisters of the new community prayed and sought the intercession of Marie Poussepin and Saint Thomas Aquinas, entrusting this new mission to God and asking for His blessing and accompaniment for the community in its commitment to the service of the Gospel.
The second key moment came on October 25, with the official installation of the community. On that occasion, a Mass was celebrated, presided over by Father Florent Zongo, parish priest of the Cathedral of Koudougou, with the participation of many sisters from the different communities of Burkina Faso. In his homily, the priest welcomed this new foundation as a sign of hope for the local Church and as a strengthening of the pastoral mission in the diocese. He also invited everyone to live a life of witness — even through simple presence among the faithful.
The Eucharistic celebration, simple, joyful, and prayerful, was followed by a fraternal moment of sharing and fellowship around the table, during which all the communities of the Vice-Province expressed their congratulations.
We give thanks to God for this missionary zeal of the Vice-Province, which continually reaffirms its desire to pursue the work of Blessed Marie Poussepin, through ongoing formation in every area of life and through the mission of study. May this new community enrich and extend the Dominican missionary presence in Africa and throughout the world, at the service of the Church in the exercise of charity.
